Hardesty was less fond of his night piece. Inside a narrow 50´-long corridor between two buildings, he placed road flares at 2.5-foot intervals . He blocked up both ends and used a smoke generator to fill the space with smoke. Lighting the flares, he removed the blocking curtains from either end. As predicted, the flares lit the smoke, creating a semi-solid. But the effect was fleeting as the smoke dumped out of the space too quickly.
