This 12" bronze was Hardesty's
first attempt at broze-casting. Technically speaking, it's a
bit daring to take on a full figure in a chair. But worth noting
is the thought here, beyond the obvious "portrait".
The chair, a rigidly geometric form, is contrasted against a
strong organic form, the Rubenesque figure. This juxtaposition
is sophisticated abstract design, so utterly natural as to be
almost invisable. So there is excellent design here. But in addition,
the portrait of his friend Sandra Cundiff itself is also rendered
with understated emotion. |
