Fear, 1986 , Hardesty's studio at P.S. 1 Artist removed the door to his studio and inserted acrylic sheet. The panel was backlit with two 650-watt halogen lights, differently colored with gels. Without reflections or shadows, doorway appears as a hole, not a surface. Gold-leafed speaker with word "Fear" whispered over and over in artist's voice appears to float.
